An opportunity to see theatrical release films for free by becoming a critic on a local public access show called “The Reel Deal” turned into a full-time job when Chris and his friends decided to take it to the internet. STARRING: Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Amelia Crouch, Ava Caryofyllis, Gemma Brooke Allen, Miku Martineau, Woody Harrelson, Tadanobu Asano, Jun Kunimura, Michiel Huisman, Miyavi, Kazuya TanabeĬhristopher Lawrence Cox (Founder, Da Boss)īorn in the wilds of northern Virginia, in 1992 Chris managed to put all of his survival skills to use and barely escaped with his life to Austin Texas, where ever since he’s dabbled in everything from plumber’s assistant to sandwich maker, from band to bar management. Chris, Jordan, Rose, and Tessa put in their support for this film and for Winstead to play Ripley’s daughter in this by the numbers but very well made thriller. Except for the niece of a powerful Yakuza head who she drags along with her for the ride. Only here, killing almost everyone she meets along the way. Her character finds that someone has fatally poisoned her and like in the noir classic “D.O.A.”, is bent on finding out who did it and getting revenge before her time runs out. Which is NOT to say new ground is tread here either. Netflix’s “Kate” drops the tongue-in-cheek jokiness of several of this year’s other somewhat similar entries in the sub-genre ( “Jolt”, “ Gunpowder Milkshake”, “The Protege”) as Mary Elizabeth Winstead assumes more of the straight-ahead brutal kills and action choreography of something like “Nobody” or “John Wick”. I mean, there’s been a lot of competition. It’s not easy to be an unstoppable female assassin who is thinking about getting out of the business only to have to deal with killing more people than ever before.
